Monica and Art
Teacher Ms. Ellie Parks
One of my most
recent and enjoyable projects was to co-create four "Artists
Bears" for St. James Episcopal School. They were looking for that
special item to be used in their annual fundraiser, "St. James
Jubilee." When I was approached a few months ago by the schools art
teacher, Ms. Ellie Parks, I was intrigued at the thought of making a
bear from canvas painted by her students. Her students were learning the
style and history of the four Master Artists; Picasso, Van Gogh, Matisse,
and Claude Mone't. The students took five weeks filling the canvas
paying attention to detail and capturing the predominate color and style
of each Artist. Then it came my turn to take the students painted canvas
and create 4 one-of-a-kind unique bears. I filled the bears with
pictures of her students taken while they painted the canvas. The black beret on
their heads, colorful scarves around their necks, and a paint brush in
their paw added the finishing touches to these wonderful bears.
